All individuals have a box in which they stand. A box that defines who they are to the external world. This may not be the box they want to stand within as much as one which society has taught them to stand. Scott's imagery is not only about stepping out of that box but also destroying it — to allow the individual to see themselves from the deepest, darkest recesses of their mind, to blossom from the bud for which they have so tightly existed.
