Billy Name Photo Exhibition: October 1- November 7

From the years 1963 to 1970 Billy Name was the partner of Andy Warhol. As such, he was the person who “silverized” the Warhol Factory, and was the chief archivist and photodocumentarian of life in the Factory. Many of his photos of the Warhol Factory Superstars such as Edie Sedgwick, Lou Reed, Nico, Mary Woronov, Gerard Malanga, Bob Dylan and many other Factory denizens and visitors have become iconic images.

As part of the Louisville Photo Biennial, The Art Sanctuary Gallery will be showing a series of serigraph prints (the silkscreen process used by Warhol) of Billy Name’s photos made, signed and numbered by Billy Name himself.

The Art Sanctuary gallery will be open from Noon to 5pm throughout the biennial. Come by and see Billy Name’s record of life in the Warhol Factory.

In addition, three events will be taking place during the run of the exhibition.

On October 1st, there will be a reception for the exhibition.

On October 3rd, Art Sanctuary will be recreating the Exploding Plastic Inevitable concert events Andy Warhol used to stage around the Velvet Underground. This will also include the first Louisville showing of Warhol’s film “The Chelsea GIrls”.

On October 4th, there will be a one day showing of several of Andy Warhol’s films, including “The Chelsea Girls”.

Information on the Photo Biennial can be found here.
