About

Founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 2004, Art Sanctuary was formed around the humanist principle that "Your Life is Your Art."

Art exists in every aspect of our lives and it is the goal of Art Sanctuary to bring that idea to our community. We believe in the viability and vitality of Louisville's art scene and want to be a positive part of keeping that scene alive.

As a community arts collective, our mission is to provide support for local artists through promotions, events, and education. Our services are made available to all local artists who need a place to exhibit, perform, or create their original artwork, especially those who cannot obtain space to exhibit or perform from traditional sources because of financial or other limitations. Exhibitions and performances are non-juried and uncensored. Our events range from our Amuse Les Sens soiree to a monthly writers showcase, art lectures, and collaborative shows such as Decadence. We invite you to come and find out for yourself what Art Sanctuary is about.

We not only provide an open mind and open doors to artists and audience alike, we believe that the mission adds to the cultural flavor of our city. We support the viability and vitality of Louisville's art community and we want to be a positive part of keeping that scene alive and interesting.

Art Sanctuary believes in keeping art affordable. Therefore, we only take 15% commission for our shows and will never allow Art Sanctuary's participation in any show that exceeds a 30% commission. We feel that the bulk of money should belong to the creator of the work, not a gallery, agent or other entity.

Our goals include the publication of a yearly literary/art journal, arts education and outreach, further event planning, and much more.
